The Adventures of Pete and Pete portraits! These were super fun to make.

This weekend I went to the El Anatsui exhibit at the Blanton. One of my goals for the new year is to get out of the house and do more things on my own or with R2. Normally I would have blown off going to this, but I really wanted to stick to my goal, especially as this was the last weekend for this particular exhibit. I’m so glad I went, and that this was my son’s first museum trip.

Pictures of 3-D works never do them justice, and El Anatsui’s pieces are no exception. In person, they are incredibly dynamic and tactile; it’s really hard to resist touching them. It must have been so fun to work on the installation since he gives curators free reign to display his malleable pieces how they see fit.

While we were at the Blanton, we made a quick sweep through the classical art section. It’s very small and contains mostly copies of famous pieces, but it’s my favorite wing. I wanted R2 to see it, even if doesn’t mean much to him at this age. I’m hope to make this the first of many museum trips for him.
